I finally got around to organising the first leg of this trip. I’ll be travelling from Perth to Broome, departing on the 9th June and arriving on or before the 4th July 2010. Over those 25 days, I’ll be covering 5300km and visiting a variety of places, as shown in the map below.

The circles indicate towns and major places while the stars show places of interest that I’ll be visiting. The major places that I intend on visiting are listed below, as well as the distance of each section.

From To Est Dist (km)
Perth Mt Magnet 567
Mt Magnet Dalgaranga Metorite Crater 75

The first leg is a rather large one, which I’m putting down to being from Western Australia and knowing most of the places that I want to visit. I’m fairly sure the remaining legs will be about half the distance as I will need to research the area more.

Broome was chosen as the endpoint for this leg as I have a friend who recently moved up there and I intend to be in town for her birthday, as well as to say hi and catch up. The backup plan is to stop at Coral Bay or Exmouth if needed and I may have to skip the trip from Paraburdoo to Murchison (and Mt Augustus) if the road conditions are bad.
